Angola

Often overlooked as a safari destination, Angola holds potential for true discovery. The rolling highlands holding untouched rivers that one can drink out of. A recent past of conflict during the Cold War era makes for unequalled lessons in history when flying over deserted battlefields dotted with bonded tanks. Find out where the Okavango Delta is born year after year on this trip following the waterflow upstream to the source. A trip for true adventurers yearning for a sense of exploration.

  • Day 1-2: The helicopter departs Maun, where the Okavango Delta comes to it's end. The flight follows the water up all the way into the panhandle. This journey reveals a great deal about how and why this inland delta is allowed to exist. In the panhandle there will be an opportunity to explore by boat and go fishing.

  • Day 3-7: Arrival and stay at the source lakes. The secluded mobile camp (think dome tents) is tucked away between the hills at one of the source lakes. This is where one feels true isolation, a place that would take days to reach by car.  Several flights will provide learning about the importance of these lakes and their significance to the Okavango Delta.

  • Day 8-11: A visit to the historical museum at Cuito Cuanavale puts you eye to eye with some of the fascinating perspectives of the Angolan conflict. Another flight will give you a remarkable top down view of the conflict's climax and all the abandoned ordnance that was left. The accommodation in Cuatir gives some respite from the earlier camping. Here there will also be some opportunity to view wildlife.

  • Day 12-14: Fly to the Namibian side of the Linyanti river. Another important ecosystem fed by the Angolan source lakes you have now been so up close and personal with. Discover the wildlife during night drives and boat cruises. .

  • Day 15: Flight back to Maun from where you will depart back home, enriched with vast knowledge about some of the most unique and captivating ecosystems on the planet
